Can't Say No To Santonio
As he tiptoed the sideline in the end zone he looked like he had just stepped off the set of "Dancing with the Stars". Santonio Holmes went from zero to hero in a matter of seconds as he sealed Super Bowl XLIII for the Pittsburgh Steelers with his memorable catch. During this past off season his value as a fantasy player has been debated. Was he a one hit wonder? Could he flourish with a game-managing quarterback throwing to him? With a stellar performance on opening night against the Tennessee Titans, Holmes left nothing unanswered.
The Titans came into the game with one last seasons most stout defenses. The game finished with the Steelers winning in overtime, 13-10. The small numbers do not tell the big story though. Holmes stood out like a rainbow in a world of gray. Gaining 131 yards and scoring one touchdown on 9 catches, Holmes established himself, not only as the Steelers #1 receiver, but also as one of the NFL's most exciting, up and coming receivers. Meanwhile current big dog on the Steelers depth chart, Hines Ward, had a solid 8 catches for 103 yards. However, no touchdowns and a fumble deep in enemy territory forcing the game in to overtime, seemed to seal the tone of the game that Santonio Holmes is ready inherit Big Ben's attention from Ward.
Although Holmes will be a hard player to trade for after the game against Tennessee, He is definitely someone worth targeting. If you have a big name receiver that you are not completely sold on, do not be afraid to feel out what you could get for him along with Holmes in an early-season block buster trade. If you are already lucky enough to have Holmes, even as your #1 receiver, feel confident. Your WR core is set and ready to bring you a lot of points this season.
